  • Put yourself in the corresponding language environment as much as possible, listen more, speak more, read more and write more. The basic stage of listening more and reading more is intensive listening and repeated reading

  • Try to internalize the meaning as you read, rather than translating it into Chinese to understand.

  • Using Baidu translation to memorize words is an auxiliary means of using fragmented time. (Abolished on 20251222 due to Anki)

  • Every time you learn a new word, use it to form three sentences in real-life situations. It's best to write these down in a dedicated notebook for review. In the notebook, record the time of writing, reviewing, and the number of times you have reviewed. When the number of reviews reaches 5 or more, and the longest interval between reviews is at least one week, your learning is complete. No further planning is needed; just wait to review what you've learned

  • If you have your own paper reading materials, mark and supplement notes for unfamiliar sentences without marking Chinese translations for review; if the words learned in reading are displayed separately, supplement phrases or examples next to them. Similarly, read the reading materials repeatedly until the number of reviews is at least 5

  • After reading, you should recall and write the knowledge framework structure on a special notebook, which can make the knowledge clear and facilitate the subsequent multiple rounds of recall.   • Learning is only achieved when there is action and communication in life and work. (1) The Feynman Technique: Upon encountering any new theory, endeavor to elucidate it using the simplest possible language. This process compels an authentic comprehension of its intrinsic essence; (2) Relating to Reality: With each theoretical acquisition, promptly inquire within oneself: "Where have I observed this phenomenon in life or at work? How can it subsequently be utilized to inform my decision-making?" (3) Avoid rereading, highlighting, and rewatching. Use retrieval, spaced practice, interleaving, etc.

  • Try and get used to applying the PQ4R method (Preview, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review) for textbook learning. In particular, the Preview stage also involves having prior knowledge and experience, as well as understanding the table of contents and outline. For the final Review, combine it with the "Golden 2-Minute Rule" for revision. That is, review for only two minutes about ten minutes after learning, which can lead to good results. There is no need to set an alarm. Simply follow the principle of learning and reviewing regularly.

  • Engaging in problem-solving exercises is an efficacious method of learning, as it necessitates the retrieval of information and situates knowledge within its proper context in the textbook. This process of retrieval followed by application yields a more lucid and enduring memory consolidation compared to merely perusing texts meticulously. Even the most esteemed Feynman technique hinges on this act of retrieval—whether it be deliberate or spontaneous.

Frequently deterred by monotony, I withdrew to my dormitory, reluctant to continue studying. Although reading gave an illusion of mastery, revisiting exam questions revealed a stark deficiency—the inability to articulate knowledge coherently. It underscored the timeless truth that one often knows more than one can express.

    Consequently, I recalibrated my strategy: adopting question-driven learning and recitation, supplemented by organizational tactics and proactive knowledge transfer. While moderately effective, this approach still left me vulnerable to inertia—tempted to contemplate rather than commit ideas to writing. Henceforth, I abandon silent rehearsal and oral repetition as primary reinforcement methods. Since the examination demands written demonstration, I must cultivate the discipline of translating understanding into written form, progressing methodically by chapters, advancing step by step like water filling hollows before flowing forward. This daily, structured output will provide clear metrics of which knowledge domains I have truly mastered.

    The human mind inherently favors ease and simplification, a tendency that impedes the consolidation of externally acquired memories. Had I recognized this earlier, I would have prioritized timely output after each learning session—rejecting hasty, accumulation-focused study in favor of quality integration. Now, with less than a month remaining, I resolve not only to articulate knowledge verbally but to embody it through writing and action, forging a sustainable habit of tangible intellectual engagement.

Diverse bodies of knowledge may require distinct mnemonic methodologies; for instance, memorizing an individual's philosophy might initially involve committing its framework to memory before delving into more granular details, akin to the construction of cognitive architecture.

    20251202: During these past few weeks of reviewing the comprehensive Education 333 material, employing a problem-centered approach with the exercise book, alongside handwritten outputs, has proven effective for consolidating memory. However, persisting in this manner has led to a sense of fragmented knowledge acquisition and considerable time consumption. Consequently, I transitioned to memorization and recitation or lecturing as alternative methods. While systematic active recall and rote learning can progressively build a solid foundation, prolonged periods of such activities tend to become monotonous and mentally taxing. Therefore, reverting to a problem-driven approach appears necessary. It seems prudent to combine both methodologies, alternating between them to complement each other's strengths.

    A balanced strategy that avoids daily reliance on either intensive memorization or continuous writing and silent recitation of conceptual frameworks is essential. This hybrid approach not only mitigates the risk of cognitive fatigue but also facilitates a more holistic understanding and retention of educational theories and practices. Through this adaptive study regimen, one can ensure a comprehensive grasp of the subject matter, thereby enhancing both depth and breadth of knowledge acquisition effectively.

One should persist in such focused learning until the point of diminishing motivation, at which a brief extension of effort is advisable before transitioning to a new, more appealing activity. For instance, I find reading nonfiction English-language books to be an effective form of reward or mental diversion, thereby preventing the gradual decline in learning efficiency that often accompanies excessive, uninterrupted study.

    Should one, after a sustained period of concentrated study—such as a full morning—still possess ample mental energy and a compelling desire to continue, it is perfectly reasonable to extend the session into the afternoon. There is no need to forcibly switch to a less engaging task, as the lingering cognitive effects of the morning’s study could impair the efficiency of any new activity undertaken later.

    Shorter, interstitial periods—such as the midday break—can be utilized for low-cognitive-load tasks like review or light practice. Frequent switching among multiple learning activities should be avoided, as it not only taxes attentional resources and overloads working memory but also undermines the consolidation of long-term retention.

    Mornings are ideally suited for launching focused learning sessions. While the primary subject of concentration may vary from day to day, such alternation helps prevent the neglect of previously studied material, thereby supporting a more balanced and sustainable acquisition of knowledge.

    20251208:It's not that I don't want to learn about the comprehensive education of 333, but rather that education has been disconnected from productive labor for too long. I instinctively resist learning and am unwilling to spend time on useless memorization. This itself violates the laws of the origin of education. I have to adopt a method of external problem-driven motivation, such as practicing problems to enable my mind to remember some knowledge.

    The next day, I realized that this was a matter of learning motivation.     20251220: The primary purpose of books is not merely to memorize information for upcoming examinations, but rather to serve as reference tools when confronting phenomena or problems, allowing one to connect relevant knowledge and apply it to address issues, interpret one’s own conduct, or explain surrounding phenomena. Books can also function as pathways to broaden and open one’s thinking and perspective.

    The more frequently knowledge is linked to and utilized in solving problems, the more firmly it becomes ingrained, rather than through incessant rote memorization without engaging in active problem-solving. For example, when commenting on a phenomenon or an article, one inevitably draws upon pre-existing knowledge, and in doing so, the knowledge activated is thereby reinforced.

    During the foundational phase of learning, I should approach each segment with guiding questions, and upon completing a section, actively recall the material before progressing further. Although this method may proceed at a slower pace, it ensures steadiness, enabling the construction of a knowledge framework akin to building a house—continuously reinforcing and expanding the structure. This contrasts with merely pressing forward in study or reading incessantly, only to later discover gaps and attempt to patch them retroactively. Such an approach often results in a fragmented and unstable knowledge system, riddled with deficiencies. When confronted with actual assessments, one is then compelled to hurriedly skim previously covered content, relying on whatever can be hastily recollected. Learning should resemble the Spaced Repetition System used in language acquisition, involving proactive, interval-based recall of daily lessons, solidly advancing through repeated retrieval—actively applying knowledge to real-world questions also constitutes recall, prioritizing steadiness over speed. Active recall also encompasses articulating or writing about what has been learned in your own words, whether through verbal expression, written documentation, conversation with others, self-directed discourse, or simulated instruction as if delivering a lecture to an absent audience.

    Merely absorbing content while avoiding active recall or thoughtful application constitutes a significant misconception in the learning process, and it is an aspect particularly prone to being overlooked during foundational study—largely due to the human tendency toward inertia. In the absence of immediate external pressure, active recall demands additional time and mental effort, whereas the exigencies of an actual examination compel one to retrieve and express knowledge.
